Curriculum
Bon Juju Preschool curriculum draws from diverse and eclectic inspirations and includes rotating learning units where we delve into the day's Focus. The Focuses are designed to broaden a student's world-view and support them in learning, creating, and growing into themselves.
Monday: Performing Arts
As an engaging and playful way to explore the world, Performing Arts centers as the heart of the program. "Research shows that children who sing/dance/act/play their little hearts out are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement compared with their non-performing friends — and they tend to have enhanced cognitive, motor, and social development to boot" (source) In addition, Performing Arts builds quick thinking and problem solving, self-confidence, and introduces new emotions and builds empathy. Family and friends will share in the joy during student's seasonal performances!
Tuesday: Academics
My educational philosophy supports student-led play and allows for creative and flexible movement within our daily rhythm, while also recognizing the need for young learners to practice skills needed in a larger class & teacher-led environment (self-sufficiency, ability to follow directives, age-appropriate academics). I am most aligned with Reggio and Waldorf pedagogy, and blend co-learning and student-led activities (Reggio) with the gently-led instruction of Waldorf into my curriculum design (think baking, gardening, storytelling, teacher-led movement in circle time, etc.).
Wednesday: Life & Social Skills
The Life & Social Skills units are inspired by my own parenthood - and what I wanted my young daughter to know! I teach basic life skills, manners, safety, and how to move through the world with autonomy and respect. These skills are simple but essential! How to behave around dogs in a park, polite greetings with eye contact, parent's names and phone numbers, table manners, acts of kindness, body boundaries, just to name a few! We learn these essentials through games, stories and song.

Thursday: Cohort's Choice
Cohort’s Choice is my homage to unschooling - the homeschooling philosophy that allows children to choose topics that inspire them, and follow learning about that passion in an organic and unrestrained way. Reggio preschools operate with a similar philosophy - with the teacher facilitating projects and acting as co-learner next to students. On Thursdays we might explore what clouds are made of, or build a cardboard city, or make a movie - our imaginations are the limit (and they are pretty limitless ;)

Friday: Fine Arts

While creative art is a part of all our days, on Fine Art Fridays we focus on a project directive that is more involved and structured. I use this day to naturally bring us closer to our community and families - as students might paint pictures for elders in care, or make a sculpture for their sibling or parent! Heading into the weekend with something tactile they are proud of feels good and builds self-efficacy :)
Tuition
Full Time Students: $300 a week, charged monthly at $1,290
Part Time Students: Please reach out to discuss half-days, and/or 2-3 day-a-week schedules!

Policies
Age Policy
The preschool program is designed for children ages 2.5-5. However, if you have a child who may benefit from continued time in a nurturing homeschool environment, let's discuss! Similarly, some younger children may be ready for our program. Let's talk about it :)
Potty & Diapering
Children should be potty training (almost there) or potty trained. We have routine potty breaks and help support the process of learning to be in touch with our bodies.
Allergies & Dietary Restrictions
I accommodate dietary restrictions or parental preferences, and am no stranger to balanced vegan/vegetarian, GF or dairy free diets. I protect against allergies with utmost care and chose primarily ethically produced and organic food.
Academics
I draw inspiration from an eclectic mix of educational pedagogies - namely Waldorf & Reggio. To prepare for the transition to kindergarten, we have an age-appropriate section of our day dedicated to teacher-led learning. Academics are otherwise woven into the program in a joyful and play-based way.
Closures
As this is a private homeschool, closures may happen due to my own potential family emergencies or illness. Student's families will be given as much notice as possible. I allow for 5 non-refundable daily closures a school year. While I hope to never meet this number, should I exceed it, a tuition credit of $60 per daily closure will be refunded to each student. Parents should be prepared to arrange for alternate care in the event of an emergency closure.
Inclement Weather Closures
I refer to the Lake Oswego School District for closures due to inclement weather. Snow and weather closures are non-refundable and will not count towards or incur a tuition credit.
Sickness Policy
We all must be free of any fever and/or vomiting for 24-hours in order to attend school. Please reach out about runny nose, cough, sneezing, etc. to discuss severity and determine if your child is well enough to attend school. Please use your own discretion, while being respectful to limit the spread of germs!
Pick Up & Drop Off
Drop-off: 8:30am -8:45am
Pick-up: 1:45pm - 2pm / M, T, W, F
1:05pm -1:20pm / Thurs.

Pick-up and Drop-off windows are 15-minutes at the beginning and end of program start and end time.

I charge a $10 late fee for each 5 min. increment after pick-up - as your child's late pick up means my child's late pick up!
